Modeling Acoustic Channel Variability in Underwater Network Simulators from Real Field Experiment Data

چکیده

The underwater acoustic channel is remarkably dependent on the considered scenario and environmental conditions. In fact, impairments differ significantly in shallow water with respect to deep water, presence of external factors such as snapping shrimps, bubbles, rain, or ships passing nearby, changes temperature, wind strength can change drastically link quality different seasons even during same day. Legacy mathematical models that consider these exist, but are either not very accurate, like Urick model, computationally demanding, Bellhop ray tracer. Deterministic based lookup tables (LUTs) sea trial measurements widely used by research community simulate order verify functionalities a network certain conditions before actual deployment. These LUTs characterize observing, for instance, average packet error rate time varying computed within window. While this procedure characterizes well channel, obtained simulation results limited single realization, making it hard fully evaluate paper, we discuss development statistical model analysis real field experiment data, compare its performance other available DESERT Underwater simulator.

Aeronautical Channel Modeling for Packet Network Simulators

The introduction of network elements into telemetry systems brings a level of complexity that makes performance analysis difficult, if not impossible. Packet simulation is a well understood tool that enables performance prediction for network designs or for operational forecasting. Packet simulators must however be customized to incorporate aeronautical radio channels and other effects unique t...

Ocean Variability Effects on Underwater Acoustic Communications

Several studies have been conducted in recent years that show correlation between high frequency acoustic fluctuations and environmental parameters. For example, effects of tidally driven temperature fluctuations on underwater coherent acoustic communications were studied for a carrier frequency of 18 kHz [1]. However, the relationship between environmental fluctuations and the performance of c...

Data Communication using OFDM System for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network

In this paper, the low cost home-made underwater sensors are designed for underwater Acoustics Sensor Network. This system is used to read the values of pressure, temperature and salinity using these sensors under the water and then the values are transmitted from underwater sensor to base station receiver. The sensors are continuously reading these values. Here, the communication channel estim...

Acoustic Channel Modeling and Simulation for Underwater Acoustic Wireless Sensing Networks

Underwater acoustic channels are band-limited and reverberant, posing many obstacles to reliable, phase-coherent acoustic communications. In terrestrial wireless sensor networks, the nodes use radio frequency (RF) to build up the communication. In underwater environments, due to water absorption, radio wave does not work well. Compared to radio waves, sound has superior propagation characterist...

Underwater Acoustic Channel Estimation and Analysis

This paper analyzes statistical characteristics of underwater acoustic channels using experimental measurements. Channel impulse responses (CIRs) are estimated in the time domain using a least square method with sliding windows applied to received data. The probability density functions (PDF) of the real part, imaginary part, magnitude, and phase of the CIR are estimated, and the two-sample Kol...
